Triangle Formulas

Law of Cosines:

Heron's Formula for Area of any triangle
first: s=(a+b+c)/2
then:

SAS uses two sides and the included angle.
 Area = 1/2 bcsinA
h = csinA   Area = 1/2bh


 

 

 


Law of Sines: a/sinA = b/sinB = c/sinC

Right Triangles


Pythagoras: c2 = a2 + b2
Area = 1/2ab

Trigonometric Functions:
The Trig functions used on calculators are Sine, Cosine, and Tangent, Cosecant, Secant, and Cotangent are less used because they are the reciprocals of the big three.

Sin(A) = opposite/hypotenuse = a/c
csc (A)= c/a
Cos (A) = adjacent/hypotenuse = b/c
sec (A) = c/b
Tan (A) = opposite/adjacent =a/b
cot (A) = b/a

The Inverse  Functions 
ASIN,  ACOS, and  ATAN, give "The angle whose Function is x", etc. for instance: ASIN (2/4)=30 degrees
